Baking Bread for Ukraine

18th November 2022

Totnes chef Andrew Green was inspired to do something when he heard about the Bakehouse in Kyiv and the plight of its owner Anna Makievska.

Throughout the conflict they have continued to bake bread, for those that really need it, as of last month they had baked over 100,000 ‘volunteer loaves’ which are donated to those most in need.

Through social media the Knead Peace project grew into an amazing community of bakers, from celebrities to community bakeries all around the world. Local Totnes based illustrator Jessica Gully (@jessmotif) was one of the first generous and talented creatives to be involved, donating some beautiful designs for the book. In a whirlwind effort by a dedicated team the book was created and published in just three months and is in all good book shops now with £2.50 from each sale going directly to the DEC in Ukraine.

The book is available in all good book shops including the Dartington Trust Book Shop and East Gate Book shop.
