Join us for the latest in a series of walks aimed at helping people discover more about the coast of the South Devon National Landscape.
This will be a circular walk from Brownstone Car Park to Pudcombe Cove along the coastal path to Brownstone Battery then back inland past the Daymark to the carpark. This section of Maritime Cliff and Slope is home to a wealth of threatened invertebrates including some found in only a handful of places nationally like the Mediterranean Oil Beetle and Long Horned Bee. This site is also designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its unique vascular plant assemblage being home to Autumn Squill, Toadflax-leaved St. John’s-wort, Hairy Bird’s-foot Trefoil and Sea Storksbill. Join us to explore this wonderful corner of our landscape.
This is a moderate to strenuous walk of about 2.5 miles, allowing time to stop and enjoy. There are relatively easy parts, but with a steep decline to Pudcombe Cove on potentially uneven ground, followed by an undulating coast path and a steep incline via Brownstone Battery back up to the carpark. There is ample parking at Brownstone (fee applies), but there are no toilets en route.
Bring a bottle of water, a snack, good footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. Dogs on leads are welcome if making your own way there, however if booking our transport option, we are unable to take dogs in the vehicles.
We are running a 7 and a 9-seater van for people who don’t have their own transport, with pick-ups at Follaton Arboretum, Totnes (by wooden sign) at 09:35, or Paignton Asda (adjacent to the main entrance) at 10:00. Booking essential. Unfortunately, we are unable to carry dogs in the leased vehicle, sorry.

Compost training session. School Farm (Dartington). Wed 1 Jul. 6.00-8.00.

Reading Group. Castle Books. Wed 1 Jul. 5.30-7.00.

The Castle Books Reading Group has been running since 2013, providing participants with the opportunity to share their experiences of reading, discover new authors, and enjoy the company of fellow book lovers.
We meet in the bookshop once every four weeks, on the first Wednesday of each month. Everyone has a chance to suggest books to be read which we then put to the vote every three months, giving us plenty of advanced notice of what’s coming up. To find out what we are reading next, check the blackboard in the shop window.
If you see something that interests you and would like to join us, simply come along to the next meeting. There is no obligation to attend each month – although some of our members have been coming for years! Everyone’s opinion is valid and carries equal weight, and if you would rather listen than speak that’s fine too. Above all, we aim to keep the pleasure of reading at the heart of every meeting

Great!
