The Traditional Pub singalong returns

TOTNES PIANIST REVIVES TRADITIONAL PUB SINGALONG AT TOTNES BREW CO

“A jolly good sing-song around the piano” brings families, friends and frothy pints together – with songs chosen by the crowd.

Totnes Brewing Co will once again ring out with the sounds of Queen, Chas & Dave, Disney, Whitney Houston and whatever else the crowd fancies on Sunday 28 September at 4.30pm, as local pianist Andy Hill hosts another riotously fun edition of Singalong Sunday.

The free, family-friendly event invites locals and visitors alike to gather round the pub piano and belt out classics old and new, with lyrics projected on a big screen and all requests welcome – from Disney to disco to dodgy 80s ballads.

Andy, a former London touring musician who’s played everywhere from Sydney to Sydenham, New York to New Cross, is bringing back the age-old tradition of the cockney pub singalong — with a Totnes twist.

It’s not a gig. It’s not karaoke. It’s just a proper knees-up where everyone joins in,” says Andy. “You don’t have to be able to sing – if you can shout in roughly the right key, you’re in.

I’ve had toddlers dancing to Tina Turner, grandads doing George Ezra, and some geezer who cried during ‘Angels’. That was just me, actually.

Pub events organiser and Totnes local Tracie Gillies says:

Andy’s energy is infectious. Within ten minutes, he has the whole pub singing, laughing and making new friends. It’s a proper community moment — and the beer helps!

With its feel-good, all-ages atmosphere, Singalong Sunday has become a beloved local fixture, with everything from Elvis to Eminem on the menu.
