The Skatepark is Funded!
Would you Adam and Eve it?!
It’s done, funded, in the bag, sorted – and any other expression you fancy using!
In the last week, we received confirmation that Totnes Town Council (TTC) Full Council has backed the Council Matters Committee’s recommendation to contribute a further £30,000 from their earmarked reserves towards the new skatepark.
Huge thanks to Cllr Luisa Auletta and newly elected Mayor Tim Bennett for championing the cause!
This comes hot on the heels of South Hams District Council’s Executive Committee giving final approval for an additional £150,000 and agreeing to bring this funding into this year’s budget.
Massive appreciation goes to Cllr John Birch for his key role in securing these funds – and for advocating for the project with such genuine passion, both to TTC and more widely. We’re also incredibly grateful to Rob Sekula, Principal Natural Resources and Greenspaces Officer at South Hams District Council, for his tireless behind-the-scenes work moving the project forward.

The final design still builds on the original 2022 skatepark design consultancy, so the overall layout, features, and flow will feel familiar. However, there are a few exciting and thoughtful updates that make it even better:
- Additional flatground area: Positioned where the current skatepark is, this new space creates a dedicated ‘Street’ section with extra rolling room – ideal for those learning to skate or warming up. This area wasn’t included in earlier designs and will now feature elements such as a kerb, rail, manual pad, and ledge. It will also help reduce crowding in the main park.
- Integrated memorial: The design now includes the memorial ledge for Max Hamilton, thoughtfully incorporated into the layout to ensure it remains a meaningful part of the space.
- Improved connectivity: A flowing connection to the new pathways being provided by South Hams District Council will better integrate the skatepark into the surrounding park landscape, making it feel more connected and accessible.
All of the tarmac around the park – including the new flatground area – will be completed by South Hams District Council, but will be overseen by Maverick, the skatepark designers. The specification and integration of this tarmac are crucial to the overall success of the project, so it’s great to have Maverick involved at every stage.
That’s probably enough detail for now (we hope!), but if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email us at totnesskatepark@gmail.com – we’ll do our best to reply.
Just a heads-up: we’re a fully voluntary group, so it might take us a little time to get back to you. Thanks for your patience!
