Remembrance Vigil for the Children of Gaza

On Saturday 1st November there will be a Remembrance Vigil for the Children of Gaza at St John’s Church, Bridgetown, Totnes, co-ordinated by Totnes Friends of Palestine. Please join us at 4pm for a 4.30pm start to honour and mourn the 20,000+ children whose lives have been cut short by the genocide in Gaza.
We will read the names of those killed, with interludes for live music and poetry. You are invited to bring a flower to place in remembrance.

Fr. Jim from St. Johns says:  “I feel it is important to host this solemn vigil as part of the church’s All Souls commemoration.  In an age that seeks to brutalise and dehumanise all of us, let us remember the children whose lives have been cut short and whose blood cries out to God – and to us – for an answer”.

One of the children killed in Gaza alongside her entire family is Fatema Saidam. Fatema’s iconic peace poem has been shared across the world through the children’s poetry book ‘Moon tell me truth’ from the Hands Up Project.

“Eyes are for looking and seeing sun
Tongues are for greeting and saying fun
Legs are for walking slowly, and also run
Hands are for shaking with friends, not for shooting gun”

The vigil will end at 10.20pm and you are welcome to join from the beginning for the whole event or for shorter periods at any time, as you would like. Refreshments will be available during the interludes (please bring cash). Free entry but donations are warmly welcome and funds raised will go towards supporting families in Gaza.

Hope there will be a condemnation of the terrorist group Hamas at the event. They are responsible for these civilian deaths.

In addition to the above, within a day of the signing of the Ceasefire deal, two of the main preconditions have been broken by Hamas:-Not all of the dead/alive hostages have been returned to Israel, and Hamas are still very much armed and exerting martial law plus carrying out executions on the streets of Gaza City! I suppose Totnes Friends of Palestine can comment on this?

I wouldn’t hold your breath on that. Totnes ‘Enemies of Israel’ live in a strange alternative universe.
