Palestine: Peace, Action & Solidarity. A Community Gathering
On Tuesday 2nd July, Totnes Friends of Palestine is holding a community gathering, as an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to come together and be supported on the topic of Palestine. It is a space to explore our emotional responses, to hear from others, and to be heard. At times like these, and as we continue into the future, we must be well resourced to face the troubles in Palestine and Israel. Taking action or being involved in some way to support the Palestinian people, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the Israeli Occupation is more sustainable done in connection, allowing us to be gently, yet powerfully, changed in the process.
Ruth Ben-Tovim, who had the event’s idea, speaks for the group by saying:
“Do you feel helpless or stuck with how to respond to the crisis in Palestine? Do you have endless questions? Are you raging inside? Overwhelmed, grief stricken or afraid? Unsure what to do? We all feel this, we can all relate: you are not alone.”
The Community Gathering takes place on Tuesday July 2nd from 6.45 – 9.30pm at Totnes Civic Hall.
For free or by donation (to Medical Aid for Palestinians). Tickets here: bit.ly/Pal-peace-action.
Toni Spencer, one of the key facilitators, shares:
“We will facilitate a simple participatory process for all voices and feelings to be heard, we’ll hear briefly from local people and groups who are taking action in lots of different ways, and we’ll support everyone to think about how they want to respond – individually and collectively – moving forward.”
She concludes: “Everyone is welcome! Even if you have zero experience in any form of ‘activism’ or related work, this is a space for you to be you, and to feel resourced together.”
