Local Artist selected for Cultural Exchange with Vire

In September this year, 82 year old Fiona Green who we showcased in the Pulse previously was honoured to be elected to represent the town of Totnes as cultural exchange artist at the Twin Town of Vire in France for two months.
The dynamic paintings Fiona sent, are on the theme of Climate Change and the affect this has to displace people all over the world. Her show opened in September and closes in November having been seen throughout the town centre of Vire.
Fiona went to school, firstly at Dartington Hall as one of the first six on the new course in 1960 and then on to Bath Academy, but it is the colours of her birth country of India that inspire and permeate her work.
Some are of Devon landscapes and others of local activists known as Red Rebels, whose events bring awareness worldwide to the urgent need for us all to adapt and change with the climate as it becomes more extreme..

The Cultural Exchange is two way, and so in November a group are coming from Vire to Totnes to also experience the place they are twinned with. Several events are planned for them to enjoy such as a walk on Vire Island in the Town centre named after them, and tea in the historic mediaeval Guildhall.

Next year Fiona has a new Exhibition at Birdwood House in Totnes in May entitled “And Death Shall Have No Dominion” which will travel on to the Coningsbury Gallery in London’s West End.
