A New Plan for Totnes
Work is underway to develop a new Community Economic Plan for Totnes.
This is being led by South Hams Council which, as part of its priority to grow the economy and job opportunities, is developing Community Economic Plans (CEP) across the District. Totnes is the third town, after Ivybridge and Salcombe to take part in the project.
Some people may wonder if Totnes needs another plan. The Totnes Neighbourhood Plan was adopted as recently as November 2023 and provides a wide ranging framework for development in the neighbourhood including economic activity.

The Community Economic Plan will take this on a stage further, examining data on demography, economic activity, travel and housing and most importantly consulting with local businesses. This consultation is now under way and will be key to the success of the planning process.
Totnes Town Council is closely involved with the project and Councillor Nick Roberts is working with colleagues to ensure that as many businesses as possible contribute to the plan.
There will be a series of consultation events and Nick Roberts is keen to gather views from a wide selection of businesses. The plan is due for completion in 2026.
Nick acknowledges that there can be no guarantee of funding for new projects but stresses that without a Community Economic Plan, Totnes could lose out when resources become available.
If you own or run a business in Totnes now is the time to get involved. There is an on line business survey at https://mytotnes.commonplace.is/ and consultation events are being held
