Sharing is Caring!

On Saturday the 29th of April Sharefest came to Totnes Civic Hall. The event welcomed hundreds of people through the doors – all in the name of sharing, repairing, swapping and making.

Sharefest was organised in collaboration between the Share Shed – A Library of Things that you may be familiar with and Network of Wellbeing (NOW).

We caught up with Mirella Ferraz, NOW’s Project Manager who gave us some insight into the event and what plans they have for 2024.
“It was incredible to see so many people from all walks of life connecting with each other, learning and sharing their knowledge as well as skills. We’re very grateful to all the participants, especially the volunteers who made the event possible, and the contributors from various projects and organisations based across the South Devon, who had the opportunity to showcase the great work they’re doing.

What kind of activities were available at Sharefest?

“The event supported people to repair electrical and electronic items as well as clothes and bicycles. Learn how to sharpen knives and tools, print images onto bags, make reusable beewax food wraps, upcycle old t-shirts. As well as learn how to manage their compost waste at home. There were also swaps of plants and seeds as well as school uniforms, singing in the community, inspiring talks, a pop-up radio studio run by Soundart Radio and taster massage sessions, craft and imaginative children’s activities.”

What should the people of Totnes be looking out for next?

“A series of skillshares around making and repairing, and supporting swapping initiatives around us. Plus we’re hoping to extend the Share Shed route to other towns in South Devon (we currently serve, weekly, Totnes, Dartington, South Brent, Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Ivybridge and Kingsbridge).”
