Selena Mara: New Releases, Live Gigs and a Year of Creative Fire
Totnes-based singer Selena Mara, creating “songs to help you root and blossom” from over 20 years of living on the land, is stepping into 2026 with a surge of new music, live performances and an ambitious year‑long recording project rooted in the ancient seasonal traditions of the British Isles.
Her next single, Don’t Doubt Yourself, arrives on 17 April 2026 — a “captivating song to help people overcome self‑doubt and unlock their potential”, marking the beginning of a hopefully prolific period for the singer‑songwriter, whose work blends earthy folk instrumentation with themes of empowerment and connection.
Following the single, Selena plans to release her debut 5 track EP, “Waken Your Fire”,centred on self‑empowerment. The EP will be available on all streaming platforms, with a possible CD edition for fans who prefer something tangible.
Don’t Doubt Yourself:
A Year of Seasonal Songcraft
From June 2026, Selena begins her next major project: recording a full album of her eight original songs inspired by the Celtic Seasonal Festivals / Pagan Wheel of the Year. These pieces investigate the turning of the seasons, the land, and the old ways — a thread that runs through much of her work.
Live gigs are also planned for Spring and Summer 2026, offering audiences a chance to experience her music in its natural habitat: communal, grounded, and full of heart. Selena’s music is described as magical, earthy and uplifting. Her original Celtic Indie Folk songs range from “enchanting and soulful to fun and funky“, creating a warm, joyful atmosphere that draws listeners in.
Her songwriting is deeply connected to the land and the traditions of the British Isles. The themes she returns to — the seasons, resilience, community — reflect both personal and collective journeys. As one listener put it, “Selena’s songs arise from the spirit of the land and fill your soul with earth medicine.” With rich vocals, poetic lyrics, and lively mandolin and accordion, her performances create a sense of togetherness. The songs are grounded and empowering, shaped by two decades of living outdoors, walking the land, and building low‑impact community.
From Protest Camps to Community Musician
Selena’s musical roots stretch back to the 1990s, when she found her voice within the UK road protest movement. Living outdoors with musicians and eco‑activists, she learned by ear around campfires and protest camps, absorbing traditional British and European folk songs, protest chants and the spirit of grassroots resistance. She later spent a decade travelling on foot with the Dongas Tribe, performing, busking, jamming and leading Bal Folk dance events across the South West — living simply with handcarts, donkeys, canvas shelters and music.
In the early 2000s she trained as a community musician and holistic singing teacher, leading workshops and helping hundreds of people find freedom and joy in their voices. Her songwriting reflects this lived experience: earth‑based spirituality, seasonal traditions, and a life lived close to the land. She has written nearly 50 original songs, including a full cycle representing the eight Pagan/Celtic festivals.
Recent Releases and Growing Reach
Selena’s digital debut came in 2024 with “We Are The Witches“, a tribute to the persecuted wise women of European history. In 2025 she followed with “Tune In To Your Power“, a folk anthem for grassroots campaigning movements, and “Breath Of All Creation“, a dreamy, trance‑like track inspired by natural rhythms.
Audiences describe her music as magical, rich, joyful and heartwarming — with catchy, singable choruses that often get the whole crowd joining in. She has performed at festivals and community events across Devon and Somerset, and 2026 marks her expansion into wider audiences through new releases, live shows and her most ambitious recording project yet.
