Poem of the Week – Now in the Totnes Pulse
For some time now Castle Books, the much loved volunteer run community bookshop in Castle Street, has displayed a Poem of the Week in its window.
The poems have brought great pleasure to passersby in Castle Street. Now for the first time, in association with Castle Books, the Totnes Pulse will publish a Poem of the Week to give our readers a regular taste of some of the best new work from local poets.
This week’s poem is ‘Let Alone…’ by Tim King. Tim is an Exeter based spoken word artist, event host and organsier. Tim is currently working on a poetry book dealing with the nitty gritty of climate science.
Let alone…
The atmosphere. The cryosphere
The hydrosphere. The biosphere
It’s over there. It’s over here.
Like love it’s all around us.
Beneath our feet the soft rocks glow;
below them, molten metals flow
through Gaia’s stately dynamo.
Her signatures surround us
illuminating polar skies.
As cosmic radiation dies
diaphanous aurorae fly;
protecting as they ground us.
Beyond her veils lie countless stars
where kids collect sticklebacks in jars.
