Saving Lives one step at a time – Devon Air Ambulance Heli Hike Returns – Saturday 4th July 2026. Join us for a remarkable day dedicated to supporting a cause that saves lives. This event not only promotes physical fitness but also fosters community spirit and camaraderie among participants.

Devon Air Ambulance is calling on people to sign up and join their life-saving walking challenge, Heli Hike – a fantastic opportunity to improve your health and contribute to a vital cause. Participants are encouraged to sign up before January 30th to enjoy a 20% Early Bird discount on the entry fee, making it accessible for everyone who wants to take part.

Devon Air Ambulance LogoFollowing the overwhelming success of last year’s inaugural Heli Hike, this year it’s back and better than ever with the introduction of an exciting new 6-mile route. Set against the stunning backdrop of the South Devon coast at Bigbury, on Saturday July 4th, individuals from all over the country are invited to choose between three exhilarating options: a scenic 6-mile stroll, a challenging 14-mile trek, or the ultimate endurance test of a 26-mile hike.

Walkers will traverse some of Devon’s most breathtaking stretches of the South West Coast Path. Beginning in Bigbury, the trail meanders through picturesque South Devon, leading hikers to discover awe-inspiring landscapes such as sweeping seascapes over Burgh Island, the charming scenes of the Avon Estuary, and panoramic views of Malthouse Point. Each step reveals the natural beauty and tranquillity that Devon has to offer, making this hike a memorable experience.

Fundraisers can expect to encounter steep climbs, narrow paths, stiles, and steps throughout their journey, but will be deeply rewarded with jaw-dropping panoramic views that make the effort worthwhile. Participants will raise awareness and vital funds for a life-saving local charity. Last year, a team from local business Red Rock Electrical took part. Matt Simmons, Managing Director, shared: ‘Our company had been wanting to do something to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance for a while. We heard the advert for Devon Heli Hike on the radio and thought it was the perfect opportunity. A group of employees and friends took on the 26-mile hike. It was a harder challenge than a lot of us expected, but the achievement outweighed all the aches and pains. The event was well organised, and we thoroughly enjoyed the celebratory glass of bubbles at the finish line!’ This reflects the spirit of community and the enthusiasm of participants.

In addition to the physical challenge, the event also provides an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who are passionate about making a difference. Participants often share their hiking stories, create bonds, and even plan future hikes together. This sense of community enhances the experience beyond just the hike itself, making it an enjoyable day out filled with purpose.
