Creating Art Under Extreme Duress
On the 24 July 2026 THE HeART of GAZA Project came to St Mary’s Church, Totnes. The exhibition of drawings by the children of Gaza will be at the Church until the 24 August.
In 2024 Mohammed Timraz and Feile Butler created a safe and recreational space in Gaza – an Art Tent – where the children could engage in activities they have been deprived of while living
through a genocide. “In our workshops, we see them smiling and expressing their thoughts and dreams in amazing ways“.
All of the children have been displaced, some multiple times, all have lost close family members as well as their homes, damaged or completely destroyed by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF).
“Every drawing, every song and every story carries a powerful message … ‘we are here and we will not give up’,” says Mohammed Timraz.
Friends of Palestine Totnes are honoured to be hosting this exhibition. Every Friday until the 24th August, someone will be at the Church selling copies of the HeART of GAZA catalogue, badges
and copies of some of the paintings featured in the exhibition. On the 7th and 21st of August we will also be running a family art workshop which will offer participants the opportunity to express their responses to the exhibition.
The children of the HeART of GAZA project love to hear how children from around the world respond to their work.
All monies from sales go to the ongoing Project in Gaza. If you visit any other day and would like to buy a catalogue, please email rahelly.cuttingbenmeir@gmail.com
