Bah Humbug!
Yes it is time… to mention Christmas.
And where would yule be without a version of the Dickens classic A Christmas Carol?
Luckily Piers and Suzannah Hampton of Vox Theatre Company have anticipated this and will be bringing their two-person show to venues around the South Hams and beyond next month.
Piers tells the Pulse: “It is a lot of fun and will be touring to village halls across Devon and then doing a lightning dash up to London, to bring some proper Devon-born culture to those poor, culturally impoverished Londoners!”

The performance will be playing in Dartington Village Hall and the Barrel House Ballroom, among other locations.
The couple, who met at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, hope that their performance – their first as Vox – will lead to many other productions. Their version of the hardy annual Scrooge and Marley’s ghosts stand-off promises to be joyful and uplifting.
They say their “mission is to create joyful, uplifting theatre that is full of heart and that is powerfully delightful. Where stories are told that resonate with a wide audience.” Our productions are deliberately accessible: they invite audiences in, offering laughter, connection, and reflection, while still challenging us all to see the world differently. Blending physical theatre, music, multi media, and imaginative storytelling, we create productions that are bold, playful, and full of heart. Our shows invite audiences in with humour, energy, and theatrical mischief, while also exploring deeper questions of identity, belonging, and change.”
Dickens’ story is one of the all-time greats. One Christmas Eve, the mean old miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, is visited by a quartet of spirits who force him to confront his past, present and future. Will he change his ways and embrace the true spirit of the season, or will he be damned for all eternity? This new commission is written, devised and performed by Piers and Suzannah (Who have been seen and heard on the West End, at Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory, The RSC and the BBC).
A Christmas Carol is quite possibly the most famous Christmas tale ever written and it’s central moral message retains the power to uplift us all and make us feel that all is indeed well with the world.
