Abrasive Trees Announce “Fully Curated” Live Event
With Alt-Rock Gravity Machine
Gothic Post-Rock band Abrasive Trees have announced their first live show in nearly two years. The band, led by Matthew Rochford (Silver Moth/Rothko) will be performing at a new event entitled “Autumn Sacrarium” this October – ‘Sacrarium‘ being an ancient word for ‘shrine‘. A double-headliner with alt-rock collective Gravity Machine, the evening will also include a premiere of a new recording “Ashen Sky” a new studio project featuring leaders of both bands with creative input from Mark Beazley (Rothko), Sebastian Rochford (Polar Bear/Patti Smith), Kerry Hope, Katie Whitehouse, Ben Roberts, and others.

Matthew said: “We wanted to curate something beyond just another gig, so we decided that between us we’d create the music for the whole thing – including before and in-between the bands.” Gravity Machine leader Niall Parker added: “It’s about creating something fully immersive, experimental and also contrasting. Sonic contrasts are what these two bands are about, so we plan to play on that to the max.”
Both bands will be showcasing new material and fresh line-ups, with Gravity Machine performing their first full band show since their debut album “Red” appeared in 2020. Abrasive Trees’ last live outing was back in the winter of 2023 and since then they have been reclusively writing and recording their debut studio album, scheduled for release in the spring of 2026.
Autumn Sacrarium: Abrasive Trees, Gravity Machine and Ashen Sky will be held at Things Happen Here, Dartington, Totnes on Saturday 4th October and Matt Rochford will be joining Alex Marsh on Vire Island Discs on Soundart Radio on the 24th September at 5pm.
The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available now from WeGotTickets.
