Totnes charity chosen as a Surprise Supplies finalist

10th November 2021

RGB Building Supplies has selected Totnes-based Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship as a finalist in its Surprise Supplies giveaway and it’s now down to a public vote to see if it is one of two charities chosen to receive £1,000 worth of building materials.

Sirona provides equine-based therapeutic and educational activities to disadvantaged, disabled and excluded young people in order to increase health and well-being and guide them towards more positive life outcomes. Many of the young people who attend Sirona are on the fringes of society and struggle in a traditional school environment but benefit from the small, therapeutic, non-judgmental setting provided at the charity.

Due to the increase in demand for equine-assisted sessions at Sirona, the charity needed new equine members for its herd and has recently passed an assessment to rehome two rescue donkeys from The Donkey Sanctuary. However, to enable the charity to provide support to more young people, it does need to build a new shelter before the donkeys can arrive. If voted as a Surprise Supplies winner, the charity will use the £1,000 towards materials needed for the project.

Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship is up against West Cornwall Search & Rescue, Wings South West in Bideford, Little Hero in Cadeleigh, and Hector’s House and The Beacons Dancers which are both located in Torquay.

Mike Curtis, Branch Manager at RGB Torquay, where Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship would use the £1,000 donation, commented:

Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship provides such a fantastic service for people in our area and the charity worked so hard to ensure its team was still able to provide sessions during the Covid-19 pandemic. As the local RGB branch to the charity, we want to encourage people in our community to show their support and vote.

The vote will take place between Monday 15th and Monday 29th November. Votes cast outside these dates will not be counted. Only one vote per person via one method of voting will be counted. Votes can be made by visiting RGB’s Facebook page and liking the photo in the Surprise Supplies album that represents the group being voted for, or by emailing RGB@pmwcom.co.uk and putting the name of the group in the subject line.

The two finalists that receive the most votes will receive £1,000 each to spend at their local RGB branch.
