Can you help the Totnes Community Calendar project?
The Totnes Community Calendar was born from a vision to bring together all local events into one easy-to-navigate system, with filters so everyone can quickly find what’s most relevant to them.
Seren Mankiewitz found that as a parent, finding out about opportunities for events and projects isn’t always straightforward. Feedback from a WhatsApp group and a meeting held in July confirmed this is a shared challenge with other parents. Event organisers also told us it can be difficult to reach the right audience and fill spaces. While plenty of information streams exist, they’re often scattered and hard to follow.
During her research, she came across Totnes Pulse, a website that already does much of what she envisioned—though it’s not as widely known as it could be. After meeting with Peter Shearn of the Pulse, it was agreed that improvements could be made to make a Community Calendar a reality.
As a group we will be improving filtering options, different ways to view listings, and eventually updates that benefit all types of events, not just family ones. There will also be (and in fact already are) opportunities for locals to contribute in other ways – like writing articles or helping with the site’s development.
How you can help:
Seren has put together a short survey to gather thoughts on which features would be most useful, including preferred event categories. It takes just 5 minutes, and your feedback will directly shape the next steps. Please also feel free to share it with others who might like to contribute.
Looking ahead.
Success will depend on two things: raising awareness of the calendar and encouraging more event organisers to share their listings. Once the family events section is in good shape, the project will be spreading the word widely and asking for your help in sharing it with friends, family, and on social media.
