‘ART & WORDS’ a new live spoken word show
The Bedroom Artists Collective are an up-and-coming artist collective and charity based in Totnes. Their next show – ‘Art & Words‘ – will feature 32 multi-discipline artists showcasing their work: from painting, illustration, print, pen, storytelling, poetry, sculpture, digital installation art, sound art, photography and installation.
The exhibition will take place in the beautiful old Assembly Hall, which is part of The Mansion and across the corridor from Totnes Library. In the spirit of community, the proceeds from the artist’s entry fees are going towards installing a hanging rail system in the Assembly Hall. It will be an impactful exchange, as like the Bedroom Artists, The Mansion is a community charity , so the work done to improve the space will serve the community as a whole for future exhibitions and events in Totnes.

The theme for the artists is straightforward: work from words or allow words to be a catalyst for their practice. The interplay between words and visual art has always been a dance of sorts, this exhibition will demonstrate diverse and innovative ways that words and visuals intertwine and it will be a celebration of these modalities.
The collective will be exploring ways of integrating live and collaborative happenings and poets will be invited to exhibit their work too. The launch evening will feature spoken word with artists including Jackie Juno, Becky Nuttall and Faye McNiven reading, as well music from Ben Cello and Stephanie Lisa Kelly.
The exhibition takes place during the first two weekends in October. The Launch will be an exciting evening event from 7 – 9pm on Friday 4th October, with drinks and the artists present, live poetry and sound sessions. During the daytime on the weekends, local artists will run community workshops – including a group installation build, a portrait club, exploring ‘sketches on giclee’ and ‘words & collage’ and a haiku corner. Gisson Hussman, a sound-based group will be doing a Saturday morning session in the space too.
