Voice only session in the snug, keeping folk songs alive and kicking. We are very accommodating – everything from early English to late American, music hall to ballad. If you don’t want to sing solo, there’s often something you can join in the chorus of.

Come along and sing with a friendly group. Lots of easy to pick up songs and a few longer pieces we are working on.

The ultimate good times Jazz band are back with us this christmas – we dare you not to dance to their fabulous mix of New Orleans , Gypsy & Soulful jazz. Think Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway, Louis Jordan, Fats Waller, Bessie Smith and Louis Prima.

The bar will be serving New Orleans inspired cocktails and the staff will be wearing their finest threads. This is a chance to dress up and indulge yourself in the by gone era of the speakeasy – a fabulous night out for eveyone and a great way to celebrate the festive season with friends.

New Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin launches his tenure by conducting Verdi’s timeless tragedy.

Worldly courtesan Violetta, sung by soprano Diana Damrau, has grown tired of her dissolute life. When the pure-hearted Alfredo — tenor Juan Diego Flórez — declares his love for her, she leaves everything behind to live with him. But his family’s reputation is ruined by his association with her, and Violetta is torn between her feelings for Alfredo and her desire to protect him from scandal. Urged by the young man’s father, she tears herself away and returns to her old life. Alfredo, not knowing the real reason for her apparent betrayal, is heartbroken — and bent on revenge.

Directed by Michael Mayer, this new production features a dazzling eighteenth-century setting that changes with the seasons.

Al O’Kane is a West Country troubadour who folds Jimi Hendrix into the sound of Celtic resistance rock n’ roll. Part Waterboys, part Velvet Underground, Al’s music is a cry for action nestled into a fiery acoustic blend.

Having played Glastonbury Festival and numerous gigs alongside the likes of Eddie Martin, Martha Tilston, Kevin Ayers, Cara Dillon, Ben Ottewell, Nick Harper and Seth Lakeman – he is “set for BIG things – beautiful and catchy songs” (BBC Somerset)

Dance into the darkness ~ find the spark of new born light within.

This profound dance ritual will work directly with the energies of the Winter Solstice. We have the opportunity at this time of year to tend to the deepest aspects of our inner nature, to turn inward in the stillness and the darkness, away from the myriad of distractions and over stimulation to create ritual space to nurture the birthing of our own spiritual sun within. To realign our choices to the greatest of intentions for what the year brings and make progress in our journey of awakening.

We will start the evening with a cacao ceremony, including sound, breathwork and visualisation followed by an ecstatic tantric dance session, connected meditation and finishing with a short closing circle/social time.

We will dance into the darkness, honouring what is there and utilising the dance to release what is holding us back; making space for the new light to be born, dancing our intentions and our hearts desire, having the opportunity to have our intentions seen and strengthened by our fellow dancers, the power of visualisation and the holding of the greater field.

Moving upwards through the chakras from deep rooted connection to the physical and emotional in the lower chakras, into the birth of the new light at the heart centre, communicating our embodied intentions with witnessed dance at the throat chakra, using the power of the third eye to manifest our intentions and moving into union and surrender to the Divine at the pinnacle of the dance; working with the polarity of each energy centre in turn within a seamless wave of perfectly orchestrated music and insightful, heart-centred holding.

Although this dance will often bring contact and connection, for this special Winter Solstice dance you will be encouraged to delve deeply into your own space and process, focusing on your own inner journey during the dance, especially in the lower chakras . (We talk about clear boundaries and honouring each others space during the opening circle.)

This is a profound and expertly held process, bringing a heightened sense of embodiment, inner and outer connection and increased energy flow within your system.

The space is lovingly held by Landa who has 12 years experience of holding deeply transformational spaces for movement, ritual, dance and meditation; facilitating energetic release, heart opening, embodiment, profound inner and outer connection and increasing experience of the life force within.

The stunning soundscape will be produced by John who has 25 years experience of organising and producing dance and music events.

South-West England-based James Hollingsworth has a passionate voice and a unique, complex acoustic guitar finger-style, reminiscent of Andalusian guitar, fusing elements of folk, blues, trance, metal and psychedelic rock. Since turning professional in 2006 he’s played numerous festivals, private bookings, folk, acoustic and rock venues nationally, supported Nick Harper (twice), Cara Dillon, Hazel O’Connor, 60’s legends It’s a Beautiful Day and Barry ‘The Fish’ Melton (of Country Joe and The Fish), who said:

“It was truly a phenomenal experience hearing James Hollingsworth’s music, I know now that the tradition of groundbreaking music is in good hands. Thank you, James – Barry Melton.”

As part of our christmas programme we are delighted to welcome back The Ronnie Jones Quartet this christmas. Since we last saw them they have been touring the UK Jazz circuit as well as the Ealing & Cheltenham Jazz Festivals. We are lucky to have them based in the South West and this is a must for all Jazz fans.

What better way to enjoy the festive period than in the fabulous Barrel House Ballroom listening to Jazz, drinking seasonal cocktails and gracing the dancefloor.
