Mapping Malcolm’s Marvellous Menagerie
They have been released into the wilds of Bridgetown for years and are spreading further afield. You may have seen one – or even own one.
Now we want to throw down a challenge.
Totnes Pulse would like to redraw the map of Malcolm Curley’s creations to include all the dodos, Paddingtons, horses, seagulls, Clangers and other creatures now roaming across the river and beyond. Bridgetown Alive has kindly allowed us to use its map of the 88 beasts currently lolling in trees or standing guard outside houses.
But how many more are there in Totnes and beyond?
This cartoon mouse caught my eye the other week near Morrisons. The penguins with the climate globe, the seagulls and the cycling frog are at home in The Mansion. And the police dog is still in pursuit on top of the police station.
On the main road near the Steiner school there’s a horse poking its head through the hedge and in Berry Pomeroy are two massive tigers climbing a tree.
We would like you to tell us which other of Malcolm’s chicken wire and plaster masterpieces you see – and please send a photo and precise location.
You can download the current Bridgetown map here. Then we will hope to draw up another map of the unique safari. send your entries to info@totnespulse.co.uk
