Can Totnes be Carbon Neutral by 2030?

 23rd October 2019 –

-Totnes Town Council has Declared a Climate & Ecological Emergency

With the involvement of Totnes residents and businesses as well as the views of visitors and experts, The Town Council are asking for assistance in creating an Action Plan that will enable the town to be Carbon Neutral by 2030 and support our biodiversity from major extinction by mitigating our impact on wild species and Protecting and Enhancing our Natural Environment.

The Town Council are inviting members of the community to the Totnes Town Council Climate & Ecological Emergency Action Planning Week taking place from 3pm Sunday 3rd November through to 6pm Saturday 9th November.

This week of Planning activities will comprise an interesting and inspiring week of exhibits, workshops and sessions around the topic themes that have been identified to date where the intention is to develop the many proposals and actions put forward to date to be developed into pathways and timelines for the actions we all need to take.  There will be plenty of opportunity to meet others with similar interests and understand more about how we can reduce our carbon footprint.

The briefing schedule of all the events during that week together with information about the interactive exhibitions, workshops and sessions is available from this link.

These are the links for documents that will be used during the week, drawing together to provide proposals for actions from previous public events:
Totnes People’s Climate and Ecological Emergency Action Plan (outputs from the Community Conversation held in July’19)
Totnes Town Council draft Climate Emergency Action Plan V6 (further to the August public meeting)
Transition in Action: Totnes 2030 an energy descent action plan (Downloadable pdf at this link: https://www.transitiontowntotnes.org/groups/building-and-housing/energy-descent-action-plan/

The Council are very keen for everyone to participate during the week of Action Planning for a session or workshop that is of interest as this is a matter that affects everyone without exception.

You might also be interested in going along to the (highly relevant) next Transition Town Totnes Film Night which will be screening the very popular DEMAIN (Tomorrow) on Tuesday 19th November at 7.30pm in the Dartmouth Inn.

The Totnes Pulse Radio show will also be joined on the 11th November at 6pm on Soundart Radio by Nigel Topping who is CEO of We Mean Business, a global coalition of organisations working with thousands of the world’s largest companies, driving ambition and action on climate change.
